"we're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year"The New York Public Library
Went to visit the Stephen A. Schwarzman building for the first time today.
Any standards I had before seeing it first hand were established by my multiple viewings of “The Day After Tomorrow” — so my expectations were really high. Despite the tourists all trying to squeeze in the one revolving door sans etiquette. Some memorables are:
- musty library smell (yum)
- Original Pooh & Friends
- The journal and hipster belongings of Jack Kerouac
- Amazing first edition of “The Divine Comedy” by Dante
- The Gutenburg Bible
- Joan Miro art book
- Henri Matisse art book featuring “Jazz”
- Cartography manuscripts
- Amazing reprint of Malcolm X’s journal entries
- First Edition of “King Lear” by Shakespeare
- Set model for “Sunday in the Park with George”
- Original print illustrations from “The Wizard of Oz”
I cannot believe we have such range of collections in NY. Most came from the library’s rare books department and tis’ where I’m headed next… hopefully.
